Tales of Tolgard
The longsword is the prototypical sword and a very common edged weapon. The blade, usually about three feet in length, is double edged. This weapon has a sharp tip, so it can be used for thrusting as well as striking and cutting.
While not every longsword has them, many have fullers on both sides of their blades. The guards on most longswords are cruciform or variations thereof. The pommel and crossguard are both reinforced and can be used in battle by skilled practitioners. The hilt on longswords are usually short enough so they can only be wielded effectively one handed, often on conjunction with a shield.
