Day 1 – 22nd
As we were leaving, I heard:
A very faint sound of a roaring lion coming from in the city:
Cast Locate Object- drove through town and to the docks- do not detect the item.
Bunch of people in the center of two said, I thought I heard a roar from the general direction of the docks…
We headed on…
Kept asking as we headed to the docks. We eventually found a particular Inn that the sounds were coming from…
Parked outside and headed into Lantern’s Rest
We headed in. The inside is empty of people except the bartender and a couple of tavern wenches- cleaning up a mess. We’re closed- there was a fight.
I kicked em out as soon as I could- one was taken over to the Temples to get healed. Some swordsman came in here asking to fight against the strongest warrior- this guy pulled out a weapon and it roared.
He had pretty nice armor- definitely not your typical rabble by any means. Looked possibly ceremonial. Looked nicer than it was practical. He was human. Looked like a lion on the armor.
About 30 minutes ago. Just the guy getting his ass kicked.
Could we get a small barrel of spirits…
Small Cask. 2 ½ gallons. Asked for 2. 1 gold 2 silver.
Xaxis got a bottle of nice wine as well.

Garreth asked around- went towards the center of town.
I followed him while the rest of the party scouted locations and made up fliers.

We gathered information as we went. Some reliable info- seemed to be heading towards the Flame District. Then we didn’t get anymore information.

We all met back at the guild about lunch time. The guards – and the Zegaran’s Adventurer’s Guild- use a training ground in the south part of the city. An OK place for a fight to take place.
We left a message at the guild to redirect them to training fields.

A suspiciously nicely dressed swordsman.

The reanimated type of undead- including but not limited too- skeletons and zombies.
Distinguishing characteristics, strengths and weaknesses.

Zombies and skeletons typically require a body. Zombies, because of their rotting flesh, move slower and generally react with less ferocity. They shamble toward you or attack you and in rare cases they may shamble quickly. They’re not pleasant to look at. They don’t typically have any characfteristics of the creature that they come from – if the creature had the ability to phase between planes the zombie wouldn’t be able to. They typically do not react to weapon damage because they don’t feel anything. Slashing weapons are more effective against them.

Skeletons do not have rotting flesh and are not restricted by slow movement as zombies are. Because they have less mass they’re not nearly as hardy as zombies. Because it’s harder to actually hit anything, they’re susceptible to smashing and bludgeoning damage. They do not react to anything cold.

They represent your typical undead traits: no clear way to cause severe wounds to them because things that would kill a living creature do not affect the dead. There is no limit to how old the body for a skeleton can be as long as you have a mostly complete skeleton. Some amount of flesh must still exist to create a zombie.

Sigil Cont.

Draconic: Order of the Forked Path
Door is 8 feet tall.
Xaxis opened the door.
20 by 20 with runes on the floor.
Long hallway with a cloud in it. Further along there is a spiral starway.
Xaxis put on the Helm of Comprehend Languages- could not read the runes.
He did a spellcraft check on them.
My detect magic was still active- I stared at the runes.
16 different magical auras.
The most potent is: Moderate.
16 identical auras on each of the auras on the floor.
Did a spellcraft check to determine the school…
Evocation. All evocation.

Door seems to be shimmering and starting to disappear.
Four cracklings lighting with rumbles of thunder. About four feet tall.
I attempted to chop the one in front of me but I’m not sure if it made any difference.
Weird critters were shocking us and then a booming noise.
Got hit by lightning and thunder. Managed to chop one to death and then flew up into the corner.

Flew down the spiral stairway.
Large room- brown rune, green rune, blue rune, red rune, with yellow in the middle.

Mass of humanoid flame- living inferno, dance of heat and flame
Amorphous two eyes and a mouth- a trick of the swirling air
Walking hill- club like hands of jagged stone, two featureless legs
Vortex of water rolls across the ground- never seems to crest or lose their shape. Humanoid shape- pounds with the force of an ocean storm.

Beams shot from all four- a giant figure appears in the center. Looks like a combination of all four.
I backed up, brought up my protection, and cast light of venya.
Lynette managed to kill the fire critter.

Killed the last little one and the big one disappeared.
She went down the steps and I flew down after Eris.
I cast Bear’s Endurance on her then Bull’s Strength.

Garreth pulled the lever…
The door opened.
Three magic circles, a couple of tables, and a chest at the end.
Skeletal creature- hateful crimson lights in its eye sockets- wearing magical robes. Three of them.
Most everyone but me were paralyzed with fear.
I brought back Xaxis who popped two of them. Then I resurganced Lynette who took some shots at the third one.
Garreth and Eris braced the third one as I managed to hit it with one of my light’s of venyas.
We figured they were a variant of the mummy type of undead. Some inconsistencies, but…

Search the monster for loot- detected a sigil on it. Grab the sigil.

Garreth – opened the door.
The inside is well lit- a number of coffins- and a guy crouched in the corner.
Noble: Did you take care of that stuff outside?
I cast detect undead and headed inside.

I detect undead auras inside.
My name is John Hayward. I was kidnapped against my will by that monster- but there were terrible things out in the graveyard. But you’ve dealt with what’s out there?
I shared I was getting a really strong (overwhelming) aura in here. John said he might be in one of the coffins.

Eventually managed to not kill the noble and discover a stairway inside. Garreth headed down.
I headed down and tossed a daylight pellet in the room.
We all funneled into the stairway…
“Even if you defeat me my master will be back to avenge me!”

I fired both of my lights of Venya at him and dropped him when they hit.
Then we had to deal with Garreth…

We managed to get him down- almost died and then I closed wounds. Rage wore off- and Xaxis cast close wounds. We got him in a cage.

Finally smoked back down and into the coffin.
Xaxis staked him.
Garreth finally regained consciousness and groaned.
I staked him as well.
Eris chopped his head off.

I searched the room.

LA: I suspect that my interfering of his affair is the result of the attack you just interfered with.
He can be killed. As far as I know he really doesn’t have much in the way of any minions left.
That region is still pretty unsafe. Some non-desirables tend to frequent his crypt.
You can find me in Whisper when you do. I may have a follow up for you that is even more interesting.
Ask around for me inside the divinity district.
I don’t follow a specific deity- I follow more a specific set of ideologies.
I have the intention of creating a place of worship there- might see if I can rent a space there.

Had the guards drag the corpses out of the road while we buried her dead guards.

One job on the adventurer’s board:

Somebody recently imported some very large wolves and they made a mistake ordering them- they would like someone to come and rectify the situation.
Hunting Lodge off to the east- they had assumed these would be good for hunting with but now are being hunted. The way to get there. Take the road towards Whisper half a day- see the trail towards the east from there- another half a day. Solid day’s travel to get there.
Judging from the map- perhaps two hours to get the graveyard.

Bursting out of the 24 graves are zombies.
Leaping onto the building to the left- apelike creature- hairless and cancerous, thick yellow green flesh. Two thick tongues wrap around it’s arms- two cleavers that it wields.
They jumped down and destroyed a zombie each and started feeding on them.
Managed to way through them, finally killing the second cleaver monster and the remaining zombies.

Records Office- exceptional amount of dust on everything and a dusty person is scribing on one of the scrolls in front of him.

According to some records of burials they do have a burial site outside of the city about an hour’s travel. I could get you a rough set of directions there. If anyone asks you stumbled upon those directions and did not get them from here.
This was- not what I expected this morning.
West the way we came and then divert off a side path.
Asked the guards to stay with the wagon while we checked it out.
The gate is chained and locked.
7-8 feet tall with spikes on the top.
We decided to circle the crypt.

I did not detect anything while circling it.
Plan to use the Claw on a tree- casting fly on Lynette

Resembles nothing more than a patch of mobile gloom more or less in human shape.
These creatures are consistent with the simply names shadow type of undead.

Simply called shadows, undead type, hard to hit.
I climbed in and dropped down, dropping my defensive aura.
I noticed that Lynette’s arrows, while hitting, did not seem to affect them passing right through.
The seemed to come from the two smaller crypts.

Looked at the door- no visible hinges, made of stone, locking mechanism.
Because the hinges do not seem to be visible it probably swings inward and it’s a set of double doors and the lock

Went to the larger room with a hole in it- Garreth saw a body inside and some coffins

Looks to be some sort of human wearing plain clothing- looks to have been struck down with something with blunt force trauma.
Searched the body – in the pocket is a key. It is consistent to a similar doors.
Cast light on Merry’s copper pouch.

Headed down to a blood-soaked set of tunnels. Then

A pair of incredibly tall, powerfully muscled humanoid covered in patchy fur with the head of a bull- the eye sockets are empty and there are chunks of flesh missing all over it.
Not sure what the original creature, but based on the appearance- probably consistent with a zombie. They are very hardy but they do not move very quickly.
Zombies do not seem to be able attack a lot when people slip past them…

Took care the othe two big brutes with giant great axes.
Then into the new room- 5 sarcophagi
Ceiling is 7 or 8 feet tall.

Each one depicts a different human
Merry opened the first one- there is a desiccated corpse in it.
Then closed it.
I opened a second one- a desiccated corpse inside it.
Two of the shadows showed up and then the lid behind me flew across the room to crush me…

A grey fleshed, hairless humanoid, elongated skull nose less face and white, empty eyes.

40 know religion check – type of undead created from remnants of humanoids created from absolute evil. Usually kill you by looking at you. Very difficult to kill under usual means.

Xaxis managed to pop another shadow and made the grey creature cower…
It stared at Merry and she died.

Picked up 2 large great axes.
Sketch the grey.
Sketch the zombies.

All this happened about midday. We rode back to town.

Beast resembling a large reptile with a variable forest of heads on its long, slender necks.
Spelled up our artillery, warned the wagon, and wracked my brain as to what it is.
It is a hyrdra- creature known for its number of heads as its most effective method of attacking and removing a head generally begets another one.
Then it regenerated…
Our artillery managed to take it out pretty quick.
I sketched the creature.
Hitched up the horses to drag it out of the road.

An order of wizards that have disappeared entirely- but they were based right outside of Inferno.

Snake Handler Mishap- local one has a mishap- make is safe for the family to enter to recover the remains – silver tier.
Odd One – somebody came in and offered it up for anyone who can figure out how to do it.
This note with weird words on it:
A bunch of words that don’t make any senses to me- look like random letters.
A paragraph and a map.
The latter two seem to shimmer a little bit.
Go to a location within the city and input a sequence of words to the device that you find.

It does look like the common alphabet.
Lynette looked at the letter- it looks like a bunch of nonsense.
Cast detect magic and looked at it – does not detect as magic.

The person who set up the job- the person would recover an item to bring back.
The person who dropped this off- he looked like- pretty plain looking.
Human- a little mysterious, I guess.
All the people who have tried so far have just stared at it.
Yeah, the guy was young.
He didn’t look like he was part of the working class.
He didn’t look like any of the type of people that frequent this place.
Snake shop – in the merchant district- couple of shops around with more exotic animals.
The map leads to the university district. Pretty far away from the merchant district.

I copy the notes and map.

Any Zagg alerts on the rest of the island at the moment- nope, looking green across the board.

Then we started to move them into their tanks- except for the violent ones which we killed.

A huge constrictor fell from the attic on Merry.

Almost got crushed to death.

We got up and followed the map to the location, found the building- went inside.

Looks like it’s made out of some sort of Onyx material.
Elaborate inlaid gold on the side.
No seeming writings on it.
The box is not magical.

Head back to the guild.
That looks like what I was told to look for.

Things are so different than my source materials stated at this point- the big event that you were all intertwined with doesn’t seem to have occurred.
Free will choices can only account for some difference- can only assume that some external force has been applied.
I’m looking at my possible reasons for the deviation- it’s probably unrelated but the city reported a power consumption spike- if you made it to Glacerin or the Leenza mountain. Keep the codec until it stops working and give it back to me the next time you see me after that.
One last thing, the one you travel with Lynette- seems to be inexplicitly resistant to divination- you might want to inquire further.

The sigils of the Wizard’s of the Forked Path are believed to lie within the burial chamber of the three wizards that make up the order. This burial chamber is hidden between the two roads leading out of Inferno and can be found by taking both paths. The secret to accomplishing this to reveal the entrance was lost with the disappearance of the last surviving servant of the order and has been the main reason their burial chamber hasn’t been located yet. Relic and Artifact Recovery Enterprises, a company based out of Inferno has been seeking the sigils for a number of years.

We slept 8 hours and prepared fresh spells.

I opened the door- a short (5’), narrow hallway with another door.

Silver: On The Fence- Terrible multiheaded brute has been terrorizing the local folks, making the farms and roads unsafe.

Don’t find anything out of the ordinary- giant log, rough materials to start a fire, ashes, chewed up carcasses of farm animals.
We travel about an hour- west towards the coast- and the trail just keeps going.
The tracks leading in from at least a couple of days ago.

We headed back.
Right around dark.
Back to the guild.
He said yes, he heard from two of the farmers.

Four hours out- the path stops, heading up the mountain. Slightly worn path heading up the mountain.

We made it to a semi-hidden entrance behind some trees. Pretty confident we have found the entrance.
1 hour travel beyond the wagon.

No light sources in the cave. Xaxis’ armor glows with a green light.

Untied ourselves.

We proceeded into a tunnel and saw a door ahead.
Large, low, narrow room with a low vaulted ceiling.

I looked into the grate- slanted pipe moving back the way we came. The second into the second grate- same deal.
Beyond the portcullis – flat topped pyramid with a sickly moat around it. Grates around the pyramid
It has sluices, flames, moat, and grates around it.
Each of the levers is tied to parts of the moats or pyramid moving.

The corpses seem to be a human and an elf.
The door is made of stone.
Hinged. Does not appear to be any machinery to lock or bar the door.
Found a set of charred lock picks- probably a rogue type. (Elf)
(Human) Fighter type, maybe a body.

Garret tries to pull the yellow one- seems to be locked in place.
Nothing appears to be magical.
3 little creatures come out of the lava pyramid.
One is a winged creature – miniature human made of lava.
Winged creature wreathed in flame with mischief.
Wisps of vapor coming from it’s body.

Triumvirate of fire or face our scorching wrath.

Garreth pulled the red one. It shifted.
Heard an unlocking noise underneath him- a gong beyond it that gonged.
Yellow bell.
Green whistle.
Blue horn.
Purple drum.

One said cease your futile efforts.
I tried to pull the purple switch.
It shifted- the portcullis opened and the drum played.

Merry pulled the blue lever.
Horn goes off- hear water draining- moat seems to be dropping.

Xaxis moved behind the green switch and pulled it.
Blows the whistle.
Hear superheated steam and rumble beneath their feet.
Looks like pulling it has lowered the flames in the pyramid.

Flew over and spit a cone of fire at us.
The second one turned into a puddle of lava.
Steam shoots out the grates and burned me.

Water in the trench I was in dropped from 3 feet to 1 ½ feet
Lynette pulled the green lever back at my suggestion.

10 feet up
The water is completely drained.
Steam starts dissipating
Xaxis pulled the yellow switch- lava started pouring out the sluices.
Climbed- slipped- fell in the lava.

The lava finished draining.
Garreth made it to the top and saw a reinforced trap door.

I drew my healing wand as I stood and I used it on myself.
Garreth opened the trap door and removed the satchel.

I cast fly and flew out of the room.

Xaxis failed- fell into the lava.
I cast close wounds on him.
Garreth jumped down, fell into the lava, but threw Xaxis out.

I flew in and cast fly on Garreth.
A ring in the satchel. It’s magical.

The blue switch clicked back into place.

We headed further down the hallway.

Lynette was the most effective so I flew over and cast haste on her.

We do have plans to extend the Zagg network but, what comes before that, we need to get our operations up and running a bit more within the settlements out there. We’ve got a couple of outposts- but nothing as established as here. We’re just renting some buildings. We’ve got some more Zagg stones coming in in about a month. Started half a week ago…

Middle of the night- have a dream
Walking down a hallway- made of a material I’ve never seen before.
Come across a room- there is a fire burning quickly in the center. There is a giant snowflake that is slowly falling in one part of the room. A ball of electricity sparking in the corner.
I reach out to the fire- it envelopes me- a sense of warmth and urgency flow through me. The walls and floors disappear- I feel myself falling with an endless void- then I awaken.
I do not sense an symbology from religion.
Those seem to be related to elemental spells- ???

I feel like I know a new spell- the Spell Haste added permanently to my spell list.

The foreman gave me a note to take to them.

Wizard’s Repo – Seeking the recovery of the sigils from the wizards of the order of the forked path.

Corrupted crypts- seeking the recovery of a family heirloom that has been lost in the freemantle crypt.

Dwarven Scripts- seeking recovery of a set of dwarven scripts from the inner-most chamber of the mirrored maze, a labyrinth constructed by dwarven artisans.

Freemantles are located in Folly.
Wizard – nothing at all to go on.
Dwarven – set of dwrven artisans – decedents – in Whisper. Speak with the cave forge guild – construction of new mines and occasionally more impressive structures.

Traditional jobs on the job board- none atm.

We are in the Guild District currently- got directions to them.
32 – knowledge architecture and engineering – Mirror Maze – supposedly been lost, but I extrapolate it’s likely location is probably in the mountain east of Parrish. It was built by a group of artisans and they quickly abandoned it because of some weird happenings that ran them off. To prevent their kin from finding it they did not share the location. They built it to practice their craft.

Our ancestors had some techniques that would really help take our work to the next level.
Where is it? The location is not known.
Must have been about 300 years ago.
Local grave? Oh, no- most of our family is buried near our ancestral home…
Enclave in Perish? Yeah, we do…
The mountains east of Perish would fit what we know of it.
Go talk to: Brother Givrick in Perish – seems to have discovered rough information about it’s entrance.

They typically attack through draining their targets are really good an influencing other people’s actions.
When cornered they can alter their form in order to escape. They have an allergy to magic weapons and silver weapons.
They cannot tolerate the odor of garlic and will not enter an area laced with it.
Do not like mirrors or strongly presented holy symbols.
Cannot cross running water.
They are unable to enter a home or other building unless invited by someone with the authority to do so.
Reducing them to no health doesn’t actually kill them.
A wooden stake can kill them.
Sunlight disorientates them but doesn’t actually kill them.

-10 pp from group loot to research the freemantle family and crypt out of Folly as well as the Sigils of the Wizards of the Forked Path.
